Iran’s ‘The Recess’ vying at Nevada City filmfest

The 21st edition of the Nevada City Film Festival in the US has been screening Iranian short flick ‘The Recess’.

Written, produced and directed by Navid Nikkhah-Azad, the short film tells the story of a 17-year-old school-girl who runs away from school to watch the football match of her beloved club.

Sahar, along with three of her friends, is planning to exit the school during the break in order to watch the match between Esteghlal FC and Al Ain FC at Azadi Sports Complex.

Mozhan Kordi, Reyhaneh Naieean, Niloufar Shokouhinia, and Ghazal Khalili are on the cast list.

Kordi won the award for the best performance for her role in ‘The Recess’ at the 33rd Living Skies Student Film Festival in Canada.

Set to vie at the Salento International Film Festival in Italy, the short flick has taken part in a number of global events, including the Reality Bytes Independent Student Film Festival and the Garden State Film Festival, both in the US, the Sofia MENAR Film Festival in Bulgaria, the Alicante International Film Festival in Spain, the Grand River Film Festival in Canada, the Humboldt International Film Festival in the US, the Festival Política in Portugal, the Vox Feminae Festival in Croatia, the River International Film Festival in Italy, Calzada de Calatrava International Film Festival in Spain, the Visioni Corte International Film Festival in Italy, the Lebu International Film Festival in Chile, and the Ishcia Global Film Festival in Italy

‘The Recess’ has won awards such as best short film award at the Oxford Film Festival, best short drama award at the San Francisco Frozen Film Festival, best short film award at the Johns Hopkins Film Festival, and Award of Excellence at the IndieFest Film Awards, all in the US.

The Nevada City Film Festival has hosted the world’s independent films for more than 20 years. The upcoming edition of the festival is held both in-person and virtually due to the pandemic.

The 21st edition of the event has been slated for August 27-September 12, 2021.
